C-Nuz
Guidelines for Submitting Material
C-Nuz solicits all material of possible interest to Columbia owners, enthusiasts, and sailors in general. Material of general sailing interest as well as Columbia-related material is encouraged.
"What can I submit?" Articles we've published so far have dealt with the history, myths and legends of Columbia; maintainence and up-grade articles in general and of specific models thru "Close-Up" articles. Our readers share their own stories thru "Owners Reports", "Tell Tales" and "Welcome Aboard" features. We even publish readers' pictures, either in conjunction with an article, or "just because" in the "Look-C" feature.
"Who, me?" Yes, you! You don't need any special talent. All material is submitted by "just plain folks". You don't have to spell right, you don't have to worry about punctuation, formatting or fonts. All you have to do is get it to us. The editor does the rest.
"But how?" You found your way here, so you must have access to a computer. You can simply e-mail your stuff. For text, we prefer documents sent in the more common formats...TXT (plain text), WRI (MS Write), WKS (MS Works), WPD (Wordperfect), PDF, etc. Plain TXT is probably the safest. If you're familiar with the fancier word processing programs, don't bother getting fancy...your article will end up being re-formatted, re-fonted, and recycled a few times, so don't spend too much time on "headlines", fancy font types, etc.
Pictures are best sent in the JPG format. All pictures end up as gray scale ("black and white") so color doesn't matter. This is a low-budget desktop operation, and unfortunately picture quality is one of our weak points. Especially when sent over the ethernet. For best reproduction, pictures should be clear, sharp, and "bright". Faces or things in shadow, indoor & flash pics often turn out disappointing. Please consider your pics with this in mind. "I'm doing the best I can with what I got Cap'n!"
"But... I'm a bit confused by all this electronic stuff!" No problema, sailor! The US Post Office still works too. Material can be snail-mailed to the address below. You can send hardcopy, pictures, newspaper clippings (not toenail!) or even floppie disks (tho' there's no guarantee we'll be able to extract what's on it). Material will gladly be returned if requested.
"Do I get paid?" Yes, as soon as I do! In spite of the editorial "we", this is a one-wharf-rat-with-a-computer- operation, and it runs on volunteer labor...mine, and all the people who take the time to submit stuff. I will be happy to send you a free issue containing your stuff when published. Make sure to include your snail-mail address. If you're already a subscriber, "oh, well!"
Complaint Department...We don't want no stinkin' complaints! I spend approximately 200 hours on each issue. I do it for free, and because I love sailing, sailboats, and Columbias. If you don't like the ship I run, launch your own.
Suggestion Box... Now you're talking my language. I'm always open for suggestions and ideas on improving C-Nuz and story or article suggestions, etc.
